Laurie Genthe, MS, LPC
Professional Counselor

I am a state certified Licensed Professional Counselor, who has worked for the past twenty years to help others find their voice in becoming a self-advocate for their own personal, emotional, spiritual, and physical health. I received my master’s degree in counseling from UW-Madison. I began my career in inpatient mental health services, moved to outpatient services and eventually into the school setting. In addition to being a licensed professional counselor, I also possess several other educational licenses, which have helped me to see mental health services through the lens of parent, advocate, teacher, and helper. It has also allowed me to see the impact of trauma, family dynamics and coping mechanisms on the individual’s ability to function at the highest possible level, which leads to personal happiness and life satisfaction.

I serve a variety of client issues, including: depression, anxiety, adjustment to stressful life situations, family communication and positive parenting, teen and young adult coping skills, grief and bereavement, individual empowerment, and family of origin issues. I am also hoping to see teens in the school setting in an effort to break down barriers to mental health services.

I am a lifelong learner who gets great joy and fulfillment from continuing to learn and grow both as a professional and a person. I believe we never stop reflecting, learning, and growing into our best selves. I am married and have two young adult sons. I live in the country outside of Black Earth, surrounded by woods and nature. I love to travel, to go to concerts, and to spend time with my family and friends. I like to cook and am often experimenting with my latest “healthy version” of a recipe, often at the dismay of my family. I have a good sense of humor and like to be around people who make me laugh and help me to keep life in perspective.

I am excited to be a member of The Psychology Clinic team and look forward to serving individuals and families in the Sauk Prairie and surrounding communities.
